If you operate an Australian business, getting a credit card merchant account should be relatively easy.

Our experience is that setting up a merchant account with an Australian bank is easier and has less restrictions than trying to establish a US merchant account.

If you want to fully automate the payment process and receive payment in real time using a 'gateway' between your website and your bank, talk to your web hosting company first. US$ Merchant Accounts.

More than likely, you've received spam about setting up a US merchant account to receive credit card payments on your website, guaranteed approval, etc. They make it sound very attractive. Well, we hate to tell you this, but this is one of the tricks that spammers use to verify your email address.

The reality is that in order to obtain an International Merchant Account for credit card processing, you must meet the following requirements.

• You must have a US business address.
• You must have a US business checking account.
• You must have a US business phone number.
• Usually, you must be a US resident.

If you are approved, you will usually be limited to US$10,000 turn-over per month and with other very strict rules applied to the operation of your account.
