Do You Have Family Support?

If you want to start a business and you're young and single … go for it!

However, if you have a family and responsibilities, you'd better make sure you have their full support and backing.

Discuss all aspects of your new business and how it will effect you and those around you.

  • What hours you will be working.
  • Will you need to cut down on family spending?
  • Will you need to borrow to start your business?
  • How long do you expect it to take before the business settles down and you can get back to a normal life again?
  • Is it a business in which you will need help from family members (and to what extent)?
  • If you run your business from home, what are the likely repercussions?
  • What hours will you be working?
  • Will other family members be required to take more responsibility for things you usually do?

The support of your loved ones will give you confidence and it will enable you to get on with the job and concentrate on establishing and growing your business without distractions and concerns over domestic matters.

Try and get your family involved. Have regular family meetings to let them know what is going on in the business. You'll be surprised at some of the ideas you may pick up. It will also make them feel like they're a part of the business and more understanding of your responsibilities and the demands you may be under.

However, don't forget that your family is more important than any business. Make sure you schedule a well balanced amount of quality time with them and don't disappoint them.
